Admission Requirements and Application Procedure
To be eligible to apply, an applicant must meet the following criteria:
- Applicant has completed Didactic Program in Dietetics academic requirements.
- Applicant (has or will have) completed a B.S. or B.A. degree by 8/24/08 (for 2008-2009 class)
- Applicant has earned an overall grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.8 out of 4.0 and an average of at least a 3.0 out of 4.0 in professional courses.
- Applicant has had experience (paid or unpaid) in a food, nutrition or dietetic setting.
All applicants must:

*Please note: This form includes University of Maryland-specific questions and must be completed in its entirety. Incomplete forms or standard ADA forms WILL NOT be accepted
- A letter of application (maximum of 2 pages; either typed or handwritten) including email address
- Didactic Program Verification Statement (or intent to complete) signed by Didactic Program Director
- Original transcripts from all institutions attended with confirmation of BS or MS Degree in Dietetics
- Results of "Test of English as a Foreign Language" (TOEFL) for applicants speaking a native language other than English
- Score of at least 550 on TOEFL. (Refer to the University Policies at http://www.intprog.umd.edu/ies/adm

- Additional form for International students
- Three letters of reference recommendation (at least one from work supervisor)
- A $35.00-check, made out to "University of Maryland," covering the application fee.
- Incomplete packets cannot be considered. Use the application checklist to ensure completeness of your packet.
- Completed packet must be received by 1/30/09. It is recommended that packets be sent via overnight mail service and/or certified. Mail packets to:

2. Be available, if selected, for a personal interview during the first two weeks of February. Out-of-state applicants can select a phone interview in lieu of in-person interview. |

Application Packet Contents - Further Information
- The University of Maryland Application Form contains questions that are not listed on the standard ADA application form. Applicants must use the UMD form in order for packets to be accepted.
- ADA reference forms. Download from Application Forms. All letters of recommendation must be completed using the ADA recommendation form and the objective scoring must be filled out. NO faxes (letters of recommendation) will be accepted. The person writing the recommendation letter should be instructed to seal the letter in an envelope and sign across the flap before they give it to you to assure the letter is confidential.
- A letter of application (not to exceed two pages) which addresses:
- How you became interested in the field of dietetics.
- How your education and experience to date have prepared you for this internship.
- Why you are applying to this program.
- A description of your existing information/computer technology skills
- Your goals for a career in dietetics.
- Why we should select you for this program.
This letter can be typed or handwritten, but should not exceed two pages.
